چکیده

Siderophore facilitates iron availability in soil, but its assistance in iron transportation to different plant parts is not reported till date. Therefore, it is worthwhile to study the effect of siderophore produced by Pseudomonas for iron acquisition in the presence and absence of iron. To study these effects, two siderophore-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains RSP5 and RSP8 were selected. RSP5 and RSP8 produced the highest and lowest amounts of siderophore, respectively. Iron (Fe) concentration of stem, leaf, seed, and shoot length, root length, cob length, and number of grains parameters were analysed. It was observed that the plants treated with RSP5 were sturdier and taller than RSP5 + Fe > RSP8 > RSP8 + Fe > Fe > Control plants. Iron content of RSP8 vs. RSP8 + Fe, RSP8 + Fe vs. Control, and RSP8 + Fe vs. RSP5 + Fe was significantly different (P < 0.01). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) proves that RSP5 was able to transport higher amount of iron to maize plant than other treatments. Increase in shoot length, root length, cob length, grain number and iron content of stem, and leaf and seed of maize plant inoculated with RSP5 suggests that the strain can be used as an inoculant for increasing iron transportation in maize plant. During present investigation, bacterial strains were isolated from rhizosphere of healthy and infected fields of maize grown at Yousafwalla, Pakistan. Fourteen isolates were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. Three isolates showed the antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis. Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae were found t...

Evaluation Effect of Vermicompost and Nano Iron on Agro-Physiological Traits of Corn (Zea mays L.)

In order to investigate the effect of vermicompost and Nano Iron on yield and yield components of maize, a farm experiment was done in a factorial based on completely randomized blocks design with three repetitions in Damavand in 2013. The first factor was vermicompost in two levels included no applying and applying (vermicompost 1kg.m-2) and the second factor was Nano iron fertilizer with four...

The physiological and biochemical responses of directly seeded and transplanted maize (Zea mays L.) supplied with plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) under water stress

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR) on physiological and biochemical properties of maize (Zea mays L.) in different cultivation methods under water stress. The experiment was carried out as split-plot design including water stress (well-watered, mild stress, and severe stress) as main plot and also cultiv...

Analysis of the epistatic and QTL×environments interaction effects of plant height in maize (Zea mays L.)

A genetic map containing 103 microsatellite loci and 200 F2 plants derived from the cross R15 × Ye478 were used for mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL) in maize (Zea mays L.). QTLs were characterized in a population of 200 F2:4 lines, derived from selfing the F2 plants, and were evaluated with two replications in two environments. QTL mapping analysis of plant height was performed by using...

A ferroxidation/permeation iron uptake system is required for virulence in Ustilago maydis.

In the smut fungus Ustilago maydis, a tightly regulated cAMP signaling cascade is necessary for pathogenic development. Transcriptome analysis using whole genome microarrays set up to identify putative target genes of the protein kinase A catalytic subunit Adr1 revealed nine genes with putative functions in two high-affinity iron uptake systems. These genes locate to three gene clusters on diff...
